For my Text & Discourse Class…

I have to write a two page paper over a conversation my professor has provided and analyze the politeness strategies. It’s kind of interesting the things we do with our language to hide our true intentions.

We never truly say what we mean because it’s not polite. We subconsciously believe we are naturally rude. Interesting.

I think I am really going to enjoy this class. =3

Questions for tomorrow’s Computer Organization & Architecture class

#6 - respond to the comment in section 1.5: if invented today, what name do you think would be given to the computer? give at least one good reason for your answer

#7 - suppose a transistor on an integrated circuit chip were 2 microns in size. according to moore’s law, how large would that transistor be in 2 years? how is moore’s law relevant to programmers

#13 - the technologist’s notion of moore’s law is that the number of transisotrs per chip doubles approximately everyr 18 months. in the 1990s moore’s law started to be described as the doubling of microprocessor power every 18 months. given this new variation of moore’s law, answer the following:

a. after successfully completing your computer organiztion and arch class you have a brilliant idea for a new chip design that would make a procesor 6 times faster than the fastest ones on teh market today. Unfortunately, it will tkae you for and a half years to save the money, create the prototype, and build a finished product. if moore’s law holds, should you spend your money developing and producing fyour chip or invest in some other venture?

b. suppose we have a problem that currently takes 100,000 hours of computer time using current technology to solve. which of hte following would give us the solution first: 1. replace the algorithm used in the current solution by one that runs twice as fast and run it on the current technoloyg, or 2. wait 3 years, assuming moore’s law doubles the performance of a computer every 18 months and find the solutions using the current algorithm with the new technology

There was a post going around about football being very boring and not as good as other sports.
I have to disagree. I only watch football because in what I have seen… in my opinion - it is the only one that holds my attention. In my opinion. That is.
For me, football is all about strategy and the team has to work like clockwork. All the pieces have to move together to make that ball move. Football is fierce - if you have fear when you play it shows. If you are afraid to get hit or hit, you can cost the team a victory.
I love football. That is all.

The best thing about starting a new semester…

All my clothes has been washed by my mom and it still smells like her and home.
